The “Palafita do Curral” by Studio 126 Arquitetura, showcased at CASACOR/Minas Gerais, serves as a testament to the intricate relationship between architecture and its surrounding landscape. Positioned against the backdrop of the Serra do Curral hills, this project encapsulates the essence of the environment, offering a holistic experience that transcends mere physical structures.

Environmental Consciousness in Architecture

For Studio 126 Arquitetura, architecture goes beyond mere design; it embodies a commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. Architects Evandro Melato and Patrício Amaral de Carvalho emphasize the importance of understanding and preserving ecosystems, advocating for a conscientious approach to architectural practice.

A Spiritual Journey through Design

Inspired by Zélia Duncan’s concept of “Pelespírito,” the architects infuse spiritual elements into the space. The presence of a sculpture depicting the archangel Michael, crafted by artist Osmundo Teixeira, adds a spiritual dimension to the room, inviting visitors on a journey of self-discovery and introspection.

Symbolism in Sculpture and Light

The sculpture serves as a symbolic representation of humanity’s collective history, with its fragments mirroring the interconnectedness of individual experiences. Through a play of light and shadow, the gallery creates a captivating narrative that transcends time and space, echoing the theme of “Infinito Particular.”

Harmonizing with the Landscape

Built on stilts, the suite seamlessly integrates with the mountainous terrain, showcasing the adaptability of architecture to its natural surroundings. The wooden deck extends the living space outdoors, offering panoramic views of the Serra do Curral and enhancing the connection between body and landscape.

A Fusion of Function and Aesthetics

Internally, the suite is thoughtfully divided into distinct areas, including a gallery, bathroom, and bedroom. Designer Zanini de Zanine Caldas’s furniture complements the space, promoting interaction and relaxation while harmonizing with the overall aesthetic vision.

In essence, Palafita do Curral represents a harmonious blend of architecture, nature, and spirituality, serving as a sanctuary for contemplation and connection with the surrounding landscape.
