A Legacy of Industry: Euljiro’s Printing Alleys
Since the 1960s, Euljiro has been synonymous with small and medium-sized manufacturing businesses. The back alleys, known as printing alleys, thrived with enterprises related to printing and paper. At its peak in the 1980s, Euljiro boasted over 1,500 businesses, cementing its status as Korea’s printing Mecca.
Embracing Change: A Moment of Genuine Rest
While the paper age has waned and the industrial landscape evolved, Euljiro remains a testament to resilience. Amidst the cacophony of machines and people, Another D Studio sought to create a sanctuary for weary souls. Ouvrir Bakery Cafe offers a moment of “genuine rest,” a reprieve from the daily grind.
The Serenity of Sunset: Drawing from History
Drawing inspiration from Euljiro’s past, the design team envisioned the cafe as a tribute to the area’s heritage. The name “Gurigae,” meaning copper hill, reflects the ocher hill upon which the cafe stands.
