Rediscovering Nostalgia: A Tribute to Taipei
Situated amidst the nostalgic charm of Taipei, Original BTC Taipei pays homage to its surroundings. The nearby traditional temple, “You-chou”, serves as a beacon of inspiration, enriching the local scene with its timeless allure. Once a general office, the apartment now boasts a transformed gallery space, complete with remnants of its storied past.
Bridging Indoors and Outdoors: A Seamless Connection
Central to the redesign is the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. By pushing back the entrance wall, a courtyard emerges, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. Borrowed scenery from the front and back yards adds a touch of nature, enhancing the immersive experience for visitors.
Nature’s Embrace: Immersive Design Elements
Drawing from childhood memories and experiences in nature, the design team sought to evoke a sense of tranquility and warmth. Circular routes guide visitors through the gallery, mimicking the meandering paths of mountains. Organic elements such as yakisugi wood panels create a backlit forest ambiance, inviting deeper exploration and reflection.
Eastern Aesthetics: Fusion of East and West
Inspired by local imagery and eastern painting techniques, Original BTC Taipei celebrates Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage. Scattered perspectives and natural motifs, reminiscent of traditional eastern paintings, adorn the space. From red lanterns to cloud-like chandeliers, each element tells a story of cultural fusion and artistic expression.
